To do this, you need a WiFi router to take an internet signal from your modem and transform it into a radio signal. Then, your WiFi-enabled devices receive that radio signal and transform it back into an internet signal. This allows you to access the internet on your device wirelessly.

These days, you will find WiFi receivers in most desktops, laptops, smartphones, android tablets, smart TVs, printers, digital cameras, digital audio players, and other smart home devices.

If you see the WiFi symbol on our android tablet, it means that the android tablet with wifi can connect to the internet wirelessly.

And, if you see the symbol posted in restaurants, cafes, and airports, that means they provide wireless internet access for your devices.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth was created under the IEEE 802.15.1 standard, which is used for wireless communication via radio transmissions. Bluetooth was first introduced in 1994 as a wireless replacement for RS-232 connections.

  • Bluetooth connects a wide range of devices and establishes personal networks in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz spectrum. The device class determines the operating range. Many digital gadgets, such as MP3 players, mobile and peripheral devices, and personal computers, use Bluetooth.
  • Unlike previous wireless technologies, Bluetooth provides high-level services such as file pushing, voice transmission, and serial line emulation to its network and devices.
  • A scattered ad-hoc topology is the name given to the Bluetooth topology. It defines a Piconet, as a small cell that consists of a group of devices connected in an ad-hoc manner.
  • Bluetooth ensures data security and privacy when in use. It employs a 128-bit random number, a device’s 48-bit MAC address, and two keys: authentication (128 bits) and encryption (256 bits) (8 to 128 bits). Non-secure, service level, and link level are the three modes of operation.

Originally invented as a way to connect devices without using cables, Bluetooth is now supported in almost every wireless device you can find. These days, Bluetooth is in most computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, keyboards, mice, headphones, console gaming devices, smartwatches, fitness trackers, hearing aids, and many other peripheral devices.

If you see the Bluetooth symbol on a device, it means you can connect it to other Bluetooth-enabled devices wirelessly.

Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are used for providing wireless communication through radio signals. The most distinction between Bluetooth and Wifi is that Bluetooth is actually accustomed connect short-range devices for sharing information whereas Wifi is used for providing high-speed web access or the internet.

The security of Bluetooth is less in comparison to wifi. While it provides better security than Bluetooth.
Bluetooth is less flexible means limited users are supported. Whereas wifi supports a large number of users.
The radio signal range of Bluetooth is ten meters. Whereas in wifi this range is a hundred meters.
Bluetooth requires low bandwidth. While it requires high bandwidth.
Bluetooth frequency range from 2.400 GHz to 2.483 GHz WiFi frequency ranges 2.4GHz to 5 GHz
Bluetooth demands a Bluetooth setting or adapter on all devices to set up connectivity. WiFi demands a wireless router to set up the connectivity and adapter on the device.
In Bluetooth modulation technique is GFSK(Gaussian frequency shift keying). In WiFi modulation technique is OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation).
Bit-rate in Bluetooth is 2.1 Mbps. Bit-rate in WiFi is 600 Mbps.

You can use Bluetooth without WiFi.

In fact, Bluetooth does not need any internet access at all to be set up and used. However, you will find many Bluetooth devices are also capable of connecting to the internet.

It depends on what you are trying to do. For quick file transfers or sharing data between two devices, Bluetooth is best. However, Wi-Fi has a broader range, so you can connect devices that are further apart.
